Joining

New members are welcome.  Come and see us on a club night - you're welcome to join in for a couple of sessions as a visitor before you decide to join the club.
To become a member or to renew existing membership, please complete the online membership form and arrange for fee payment as indicated on the form.  This is best done by BACS  (Sort Code: 60-07-34; A/C#: 10775153) although we do still accept cash or cheques to the treasurer or other committee members.
We do not offer formal teaching, but we have many experienced canoeists and kayakers in our club who are often willing to help less experienced members and run informal training or coaching events.
Children are welcome, but usually only if accompanied on the water by a responsible and competent adult.  Children over 14 can attend regular pool & lake events with parental or guardian consent.  

Fees

Fees for the 2024/25 season which runs from 1st April are:

  • Family £50 (2 co-habiting adults and up to 2 dependent offspring under 21)

  • Adult £35

  • Under 25, Students & Juniors (U18) £11

  • No regular income (on application to the committee) £11
    ​
  • Pool sessions are £7 / 45 min session

​If you join between 1st Jan and 1st April pre-season your membership extends to the end of the subsequent season.

  • The use of club boats and equipment on Derwentwater, from the racks at the marina. (Use of club boats and equipment away from Derwentwater needs to be cleared with the club chair or equipment officer, and we ask for voluntary donation to our equipment fund when you do this).
  • Use of the marina during daylight hours but please always leave your membership card in your car window. To use the marina outside a club event every paddler needs to have public liability insurance for paddling, either by being a full British Canoeing Member or by having some other form of sport insurance. 
  • You need to register using this form if you want to use the Marina and paddle on the lake outside the Wednesday evening club session, including other club events.  This will automatically add an event to our club marina calendar.  In addition if you use the Marina after 18h00 please always close and relock the gate both on entry and exit. These requirements are to maintain Marina security.  
  •  Parking at the marina is restricted at certain times as displayed on the club marina booking calendar.
  • Wednesday evening club sessions at Derwentwater Marina.
  • Wednesday evening pool sessions in the winter are at the Calvert Trust.  You need to book using the event calendar if you want to attend.
  • Discounts for equipment at certain outdoor shops - eg. Derwentwater Marina, Border Kayaks, Cotswold Outdoor
  • Support for active club members who wish to gain coaching or skills qualifications.
